Liability & BADV protection

Aviation technology companies / Maintenance

Aviation technology companies, including continuing airworthiness management organizations (CAMO) and suppliers to the aviation industry, as well as aircraft dealers, require aviation product liability insurance. This provides insurance coverage if the company is held liable for property damage or personal injury as a result of a loss event.

The insurance coverage extends to statutory liability arising from the manufacture or delivery of products, as well as from the performance of work and other services. Supplementary insurance coverage is provided under the Ground Handling Services Ordinance (BADV). According to Section 3 of the Ground Handling Services Ordinance, this is a legally required compulsory insurance.

All service providers at airports that provide ground handling services are required to take out aviation liability insurance in accordance with the Ground Handling Services Ordinance. This covers damage that may arise in the course of the following activities, among others:

The insurance cover includes the examination of liability issues, the payment of justified claims for damages, and the fulfillment of justified obligations to pay damages.

Private Pilot

Liability, comprehensive, and accident insurance

Private Pilot

CSL insurance

Nowadays, most pilots take out CSL insurance (combined single limit insurance). This is a combined policy covering owner liability and passenger liability insurance.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance offers comprehensive protection in the event of loss or damage to the aircraft. Up to the agreed sum insured, all damage to which the insured aircraft is exposed both on the ground and in the air is covered. The sum insured should always correspond to the current market value of your aircraft in order to avoid underinsurance or overinsurance. As our customer, you will receive regular review notices with which you can check your sum insured and adjust it if necessary.

By naming the pilot(s), the comprehensive insurance premium can be significantly reduced. For this reason, we expressly recommend that you specify the pilots used when making an inquiry. We would be happy to discuss further premium reductions with you personally, for example, through no-claims discounts, fleet discounts, or discounts based on association membership.

Aviation accident insurance

Aviation accident insurance protects both you as an active pilot and your passengers against the financial consequences of a flight accident. Aviation accident insurance can either be linked to the aircraft (seat accident insurance) or cover you personally (named aviation accident insurance). Of particular interest to pilots is combined accident insurance, which covers both general 24-hour risk and specific pilot risk. This provides comprehensive insurance coverage in all situations – both during flight operations and in your private life.

FAQ

FAQ Aviation Insurance

The most important questions clarified

What is aviation insurance?

Aviation insurance is specialized insurance coverage for aircraft, pilots, clubs, and companies. Among other things, it covers legally required liability risks and optional risks such as damage to your own aircraft or accident damage.

In principle, liability insurance for the owner is mandatory for every aircraft. It covers claims for damages by third parties arising from the operation of the aircraft. If an aircraft is also used for passenger transport, passenger liability insurance is also required. The combination of both types of coverage is called CSL insurance (Combined Single Limit).

In addition to statutory liability insurance, the following is often recommended:
  • Comprehensive insurance covering damage to your own aircraft.
  • Accident insurance for pilots, passengers, or named persons to cover the financial consequences of accidents.
  • Special coverage such as seat accident insurance, engine insurance, or war risk insurance for special risks.
The premiums are based on various factors, such as:
  • Type and value of the aircraft
  • Number and use of the aircraft
  • Number and experience of pilots
  • Desired coverage amounts and deductibles

Comprehensive insurance protects your aircraft against partial and total damage that may occur, for example, as a result of accidents, weather events, or other hazards on the ground and in the air. The sum insured should correspond to the current market value in order to avoid underinsurance or overinsurance.

Aviation accident insurance protects pilots and passengers against the financial consequences of an accident, particularly in the event of serious injury or death. It can be linked to an aircraft or taken out specifically for individuals.
